Founded in 2009, the Saskatoon Fantastic Film Festival (SFFF), previously Dark Bridges Film Festival, contributes to Saskatoon’s presents the best in international genre cinema through screening a wide gamut of award-winning contemporary films in a variety of categories, ranging from feature length narrative and documentary, animation, short films and new this year, Virtual Reality films.
On the Saturday morning during the festival, SFFF is thrilled to present the Saturday Morning Cartoon All You Can Eat Cereal Party. This 3-hour trip into the weird and wonderful world of animated antics will be accompanied by an all-you-can eat buffet of cereal that is open throughout the show (and yes, there will be soy options too!). The cartoon lineup is a complete secret (even to the festival team), but you’ll see both faves and obscurities spanning the 60s, 70s and 80s, all punctuated with vintage commercials and PSAs! So get ready for a sugar rush and an explosion of nostalgia all wrapped up in one candy-coated package.
In addition to showing the best new genre films SFFF presents a retrospective each year that covers an aspect of the history of genre films. In 2018, we focused on Body Horror and in 2019 for our 10th Anniversary we celebrated the careers of Joe Dante and Belinda Balaski. Our team is currently planning this year’s retrospective..
SFFF was created by fans, for the fans. We are dedicated to programming unique, boundary pushing films, which we feel defy convention in form, style and content in various genres. We challenge and entertain our audiences with films they may not have the opportunity to see otherwise.
Keep watch here and at our Facebook Page for more information about the festival.
