Synopsis

Completely unbeknownst to us until it was announced, three pillars of the Baby Assassin franchise, writer Yugo Sakamoto, action choreographer Kensuke Sonomura, and one the lead actresses from the series, Akari Takaishi, made another action comedy, this time with a supernatural twist. Takaishi plays Fumika, a college student who gets possessed by the spirit of a vengeful hit man named Kudo, played by Sonomura regular Masanori Mimoto. Fumika reluctantly agrees to help Kudo finish his quest for vengeance from beyond the grave. For Ghost Killer, action choreographer extraordinaire Sonomura gets behind the camera as the director, as well as continuing to provide a dizzying array of stunts and fight sequences. With Sakamoto’s penchant for penning understated comedic moments, combined with his ability to create some of the most dynamic and exciting action sequences in the stunt world today, lead actress Takaishi is in familiar territory once again. Between the editing and too many Texas Switches to count Fumika’s in and out of body experiences make those action sequences even greater. GHOST KILLER is a bit more serious than its Baby Assassins predecessors, but the DNA is the same and fans of that franchise should find lots to like in this supernatural action comedy.
